i-Ready® Letter Learning
A digital product teaching letter names and sounds to beginning readers.

I led design for i-Ready Letter Learning®, a web-based foundational skills product that teaches letter sounds and spellings to students who are new both to reading and to digital experiences. Based on best teaching practice, students learn to read in an intuitive and culturally responsive way.
In my role as lead interaction designer, I:
- facilitated cross-team ideation for alliterative sentences and specs for animated illustrations.
- directed a small group of freelance artists through multiple review rounds to produce culturally responsive illustrations.
- managed communications and contracts between Curriculum Associates and multiple agencies representing freelance art talent.
- ideated and designed activities for very young users who are new to digital experiences.
- leveraged rigorous testing data to validate design and improve ease of use.
- presented design decisions to and gathered feedback from stakeholders.
- ensured that text, UI, and important graphic elements met WCAG 2.1 AA size and contrast requirements.
- designed keyboard navigation guides for developer implementation in activities.
- worked closely with accessibility specialists to prevent motion triggers for seizure-prone users.
- partnered closely with developers to deliver a polished high-fidelity product.
- built a cross-product library of more than 300 reusable spot art assets for future projects.
i-Ready® Letter Learning blends modeled instruction with interactive practice specially suited to kindergarteners and first graders. All 26 letters in the English alphabet are introduced by culturally responsive illustrations crafted by a diverse pool of artists and brought to life with animation by our in-house team. These combine into one engaging product that sets young readers up for success.
